Best Coffee Shops in Carlsbad Village — Where Locals Actually Go
Local's Guide
Vinaka Cafe
Morning Ritual · Bohemian · Old School Carlsbad
Let me tell you about my office morning. I walk in, drop my bag, and head upstairs to Vinaka. That's the routine. Vinaka Cafe is tucked upstairs in the Carlsbad Village Faire — connected to the old Victorian hotel, just a few steps from my office and Gregorio's — and it is the most Carlsbad place I can think of.
The vibe is bohemian and completely relaxed. Old school coastal community energy. Tables, lounge areas, inside and out. Hot food, pastries, cakes, coffee, tea — and I'm pretty sure they even offer beer if that's where your day is headed. No judgment here.
It's a mix of locals, digital nomads, people working on laptops, people just hanging out. Nobody's in a rush. It feels like Carlsbad the way Carlsbad used to feel — and somehow still does.
Kelly's order: Chai tea and a sandwich. Every time.

Local tip: Find it upstairs in the Carlsbad Village Faire, connected to the old Victorian hotel. It's a little hidden — which is exactly why locals love it.
Lofty Coffee
State Street · Meet Up · Open & Modern
Lofty is my meeting spot. When I need to sit down with someone, catch up with a client, or just want to set up my laptop and actually get work done — Lofty is where I go. It's right on State Street in the heart of the village, open and airy, modern without being cold. The outside seating is perfect for a Carlsbad morning when the sun is out and there's a light breeze off the ocean.
Laptop friendly, great energy, the kind of place where you sit down for one coffee and look up two hours later. Morning and early afternoon only — so don't plan your afternoon coffee run here.
Kelly's order: Cloudy With A Chance Of Cold Brew — yes that's the actual name, yes it's as good as it sounds. And the Turkey Avocado Croissant if I'm treating myself.

Local tip: Morning and early afternoon only. Plan accordingly — this is not your late afternoon coffee spot.
Baba Coffee
Mom & Pop · Grab & Go · Village Local
Baba is the locals' local. Smaller, more intimate, mom and pop energy in the best possible way. Modern and fun without trying too hard. Also on State Street in the village — so you're never far from your next coffee fix.
Perfect for a quick grab and go when you're between appointments or on your way somewhere. They do have seating if you want to stay but the grab and go energy is strong here and that's not a bad thing. Sometimes you just need a great coffee and a slice of banana bread and you need it fast.
Kelly's order: Banana bread and a Chai Tea. Simple. Perfect.

Local tip: Great for a quick stop between appointments. Don't overthink it — just grab your coffee and go.
