Some restaurants are more than just a place to grab a bite. They're part of the neighborhood, part of our memories, and part of what makes a community feel like home.
For me, Dini's by the Sea is one of those places.
Perched along Carlsbad Boulevard with beautiful views of the Pacific Ocean, Dini's has long been one of my favorite spots to enjoy a great meal, catch a sunset, or simply relax and take in everything I love about living on the coast.
And this November, Dini's is celebrating a pretty impressive milestone: 50 years of the Dini's legacy!
A Little Carlsbad History With Your Ocean View
Dini's has some fascinating roots in San Diego history.
The family's restaurant and bar legacy traces back to the Dini brothers—Amerigo, Colombo, and Michael Sr.—and the historic McDini's, which dates to 1890 and was known as San Diego County's oldest bar.
Dini's by the Sea brought that hospitality tradition to Carlsbad in the 1980s, becoming a familiar destination for locals and visitors alike.
Today, co-owners Michael Dini and Michael Arellano continue that legacy, combining a welcoming neighborhood atmosphere with one of the best backdrops you could ask for: the Pacific Ocean.
There's something special about a place that has been around long enough to become part of so many people's stories.
Let's Talk About the Food… Especially the Steamed Clams!
Okay, I have to share one of my personal favorites.
Dini's has some of the best steamed clams around!
If you love seafood as much as I do, their Steamer Combo is definitely worth trying. It's made with New Zealand clams, Prince Edward Island mussels, garlic, shallots, and white wine, served with parmesan garlic toast.
For me, it's one of those dishes I look forward to whenever I visit. And with an ocean view in the background, it's even better.
Of course, there's plenty more on the menu, from crab cakes and fresh seafood to burgers, sandwiches, and weekend brunch favorites.
But if you're asking me what to order, you already know my answer. Get the clams!
One of Carlsbad's Best Places to Catch a Sunset
Part of what makes Dini's so special is its location.
Sitting along Carlsbad Boulevard, directly across from the beach, the restaurant offers covered patios with beautiful ocean views.
Whether you're meeting friends for happy hour, enjoying a leisurely weekend brunch, or stopping in for dinner, it's the kind of place where you can settle in and lose track of time.
And when the sun starts dropping toward the horizon, you remember why we're so lucky to call Carlsbad home.

Dini's is inviting the community to celebrate its milestone anniversary on Saturday, November 7, 2026.
The restaurant is recognizing the hardworking staff, loyal customers, friends, and generations of supporters who have helped make its success possible.
They're also collecting old photographs to create a special anniversary montage.
